As a part of CAIDA's mission to promote cooperative macroscopic measurement and analysis of Internet traffic and performance, collection of data for scientific analysis of network function is one of CAIDA's core objectives. CAIDA collects several different data types at geographically and topologically diverse locations, and makes this data available to the research community to the extent possible while preserving the privacy of individuals and organizations who donate data or network access. For questions about CAIDA data, contact data-info@caida.org.

CAIDA maintains a list of non-CAIDA publications using CAIDA data.

CAIDA Data by Access Requirements

For a variety of reasons, including respect for the privacy of communication between individuals, security concerns, and the conditions of collection agreements between CAIDA and some of its data providers, we are unable to make all data housed at CAIDA ubiquitously accessible. This page provides an overview of the Acceptable Use Policies under which CAIDA releases data and an index of data sources available with and without these access restrictions.

Funding sources for serving measurement data to the community are both rare and limited. We ask that everyone using CAIDA data send us notification of any publications (including papers, online reports, and theses) that use our data so that we can justify the resources that support our data distribution efforts.

Freely AvailableAssociated Data

The simplest form of data access -- recipients access and download data via a web interface.

Available on RequestAssociated Data

To ensure continued funding for providing data to the Internet measurement community, CAIDA must collect information about the individuals and groups using its data and the goals for research incorporating the data.

CAIDA Visit RequiredAssociated Data

Some datasets contain sufficiently sensitive information that they cannot be publicly released. These datasets are available to individuals who arrange visits to CAIDA to work on the datasets and return with research results that do not contain sensitive information.
