- System Administrator Assistant ($13/hr) (NSF REU funded) (Job Number: 711242)
Job description: Assist Unix System Administrators with tasks
associated with the support, configuration, and maintenance of
computer systems including desktops (Windows XP, Mac OSX, Linux,
and FreeBSD), rack-mounted servers (FreeBSD, Solaris, Linux),
and remote servers (FreeBSD, Linux). Design and implement software
to address a variety of tasks.
Qualifications: Must be well-organized and detail-oriented. Experience with some form of Unix (FreeBSD, Linux, etc.) and some form of scripting language (Perl, Python, etc.) preferred. Must have a high level of creativity and knowledge of or ability to learn about computer hardware and software. Good communication skills and good command of the English language is essential. Ability to multi-task and be flexible is required.
- Data Administrator Assistant ($13/hr) (NSF REU funded) (Job Number: 711240)
Job Description: Under general supervision the student will assist our
Data Administrator with tasks associated with managing and analyzing
large volumes of Internet data.
CAIDA's primary web site receives over 2,000 unique visitors (70,000+ hits) a day, making it one of the busier web sites on campus. CAIDA research results hit slashdot once or twice a year leading to over 30,000 visitors on those days. The web site has been in production status for over 7 years.
Qualifications:
- Must be well-organized and detail-oriented.
- Experience with HTML, shell scripting, Javascript, relational database concepts (MySQL), and data serialization languages, like XML, is preferred.
- Must pay UC reg. fees each quarter working.
